A BIG Melbourne Cup function has raised $18,000 for two charities which help cancer victims and sick children.
Re/Max Bayside Property held the cup function at Sirromet which turned into plenty of fun.
A cheque for about $10,000 is expected to go to Choices@The Wesley Hospital charity and $8000 to the Make a Wish Foundation.
Remax's Wade Trask said a cheque would be presented to the charity in about a week.
"We had 165 guests attend the event and it was very well supported by local fashion designer Renae Jackson as well as other local businesses," Mr Trask said.
Guests were entertained by two bands and there were live and silent auctions.
"The atmosphere, food and wine were all first rate and we are already looking forward to next year's event being bigger and better," Mr Trask said.
A total of 13 local businesses supported the day.
