Check your health benefits before the end of the year

Some cosmetic procedures such as teeth whitening and veneers may be covered by Private Health Funds which means that beautiful smile could become a reality.

With the end of year approaching, Coastal Dental Care staff are reminding the Redland Bay community to check their health funds and what they cover.

There may be unused dental care benefits they can take advantage of before they expire on December 31.

Most reputable health funds will cover major dental procedures such as crowns, root canal treatment or dental implants and there is usually an exception with some cosmetic procedures, including teeth whitening.

Coastal Dental Care's Dr Ankit Wadhawan said many people get caught up at the start of the silly season and are often too busy to think twice about their health fund.

"Because dental benefits and extras don't roll over after December 31, we are seeing a number of benefits going unused before the end of the year," she said.

Health fund benefits and expiry dates can vary, but a majority cover preventative dental appointments which include check-ups, cleans, oral examinations, minor fillings and x-rays.

The Redland Bay practice would love to see families utilising their benefits for their preventative appointments.

"Often people put a visit to the dentist off until they have a serious dental issue or are in pain.

"By using their benefits for regular check-ups, patients won't have any out of pocket costs and stay on top of their oral health.

"Also, if you haven't been to the dentist this year and have unclaimed benefits we encourage you to contact our Redland Bay practice and book an appointment."

At Coastal Dental Care, the goal is to ensure patients are in optimal oral health for the holiday season as staff would not want anyone to get stuck on Christmas Day or any of the public holidays without access to a dentist.

Coastal Dental Care Redland Bay offers a no gap check-up and clean for all private health fund members with available dental extras cover and is also offering a $125 check-up and clean to any patients without private health fund cover, including x-rays, scale and fluoride treatment.

In addition, it bulk bills for children who are covered for up to $1000 in dental treatment under the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS).

The schedule is available for eligible children aged between two and seventeen.

Depending on health fund and extras cover, one or two check-ups each year are generally included in your health fund cover and with these benefits, you will have no extra costs at Coastal Dental Care for your check-up and clean.
