RUSSELL Island fishing prodigy Max Claridge-Tighe has stolen the limelight again, walking away from a recent competition with seven trophies and a major club award.
The wiz kid snagged the biggest flathead, snapper and bream on the weekend, earning him the title of Russell Island Fishing Club's junior champion and overall champion.
Max's mother Georgina Claridge said he also took home a $100 cheque for fishing excellence and a collection of rods and tackle.
"I don't need to buy him any fishing gear for Christmas now," she said.
"This has been his biggest achievement of the year. His friends call him a celebrity which is pretty cute. They all want to get fishing shirts now.
"He has really grown in confidence this season. He wants to enter into Redland Bay fishing comps next year so he can go up against more children."
Ms Claridge said her five-year-old daughter Asher also won a medal for placing second overall in the junior competition.
"Her bream weighed in as the second biggest, winning her a fishing rod and tackle box" she said.
"It runs in the family at the moment."
Ms Claridge said Max's next goal was to go deep sea fishing.
"He wants to save his money and buy a charter boat in the long run," she said.
"I told him that's how you make your dreams come true so he hasn't spent a dollar of his winnings yet."
Max took part in competitions once a month at Russell Island Fishing Club this year.
Ms Claridge said she implored other children to take up the sport at Russell Island Fishing Club.
"Kids should give it a try because the people running the club love having them," she said.
"They are a really nice club and they are looking for more people to join."
