RSPCA Queensland has appealed to residents to keep an eye out for injured wildlife over the holidays.
Spokesperson for the RSPCA animal care hospital at Wacol, Michael Beatty said animal carers had been kept busy over the Christmas period coping with the impact of breeding season, drought and bushfires.
"We are in the midst of trauma season, with animals on the move and babies being born," he said.
"We would ask people to call 1300ANIMAL if they see any injured wildlife," he said.
Mr Beatty said among the patients who spent Christmas at the Wacol hospital was a baby Boobook owl.
"The baby owl was found in a swimming pool in Pullenvale," he said.
"He was unable to get out but is under care and will go to a carer shortly."
"The second is a koala joey who was on his mother's back when she was attacked by a dog at Dakabin.
"He had a fractured scapular and ribs and has had a blood transfusion.
"So far so good and he will also go to a carer.
"Sadly his mother had to be euthanased because of the extent of her injuries."
Mr Beatty said dog attacks were all too common at this time of year.
"We ask dog owners to please keep their pets indoors at night, especially if they live in areas where koalas are," he said.
