A REDLAND Bay couple is on top of the world after welcoming a baby girl just one hour into the new decade.
Redland Bay's Alana Axisa and Travis Langford welcomed baby girl Oakley Tess Langford at 1.07am on New Year's Day.
Oakley was not only the first baby to arrive in the Redlands in 2020, but in the whole Metro South area, which also includes Logan, Beaudesert, Princess Alexandra and QEII hospitals.
According to Baby Center, Oakley was the 387th most popular name for girls in 2019.
Weighing 3.49 kilograms, Oakley was a welcome surprise, arriving two days ahead of schedule.
Ms Axisa said the couple were thrilled to have a New Year's baby.
"I didn't think it would actually happen," she said.
"I had a fantastic labour and delivery because the staff were very friendly and professional.
"I would like to say a massive thank you to all the Redland Hospital maternity staff for doing such an amazing job."
Oakley is the couple's first child, but Ms Axisa said Archie - the family's pet dog - could not wait to meet his new "little sister".
The hospital's first baby was a girl born on March 15, 1999.
The 20th anniversary came before construction began on the hospital's expanded birthing unit, as part of a $1.73 million state investment in hospital upgrade and expansion works.
