Welcome rain and relief from the unusually hot temperatures are in sight for south east Queensland this weekend.
A southerly change will bring showers and storms, with widespread falls predicted.
Bureau of Meteorology experts predict totals of 20-50mm, with isolated storms dropping 60mm in some areas.
The change is predicted to come in tomorrow night, and peak on Sunday.
The relief from the heat will be noticeable. After a high of 36 tomorrow, the change will drop temperatures to 28 degrees - below the January average of 31.
Meteorologist Shane Kennedy said he expected temperatures to remain in the high 20s to low 30s for the rest of the week.
"The main climate drivers, which have been keeping things hotter and drier than normal, are breaking," Mr Kennedy said.
The Indian Ocean, which has been cooler than normal, is warming, Mr Kennedy said.
A monsoon trough has formed over northern Australia. Closer to home, westerly winds which have blown hotter, drier air from central Australia, have also eased.
Mr Kennedy said thunderstorm activity, while widespread, did not guarantee big totals.
"The showers and thunderstorms can be hit and miss," he said.
