A BOOKFEST at Point Lookout has raised $6500 for the North Stradbroke Island Volunteer Marine Rescue team.
President Roger Slinger said the money would help the volunteers perform medical evacuations, rescues and assist vessels in distress.
"Because we are a volunteer organisation we rely on fundraising and donations," he said.
"One of the big things we do is medevacs with the Queensland Ambulance Service.
"Last year we performed 171 medevacs which is pretty amazing because it sort of averages out to one every two days.
"We also do vessel assists and search and rescue operations with the police."
Mr Slinger said he was thankful to the volunteers who organised and ran the three day bookfest at the Point Lookout Community Hall.
"Normally the Redland City Council rent that space out but they were very kind to allow us use of the hall for no charge," he said.
The VMR team use a vessel called Deranji which has been equipped with a striker stretcher that paramedics can use during medical evacuations.
The team were involved in the attempted rescue of two fishermen who went missing in Moreton Bay last year.
