REDLANDS Tigers duo Sam Heazlett and James Bazley have been named to represent the Queensland second XI in an upcoming twenty-twenty series on the Sunshine Coast.
Heazlett is looking to regain his place in the Brisbane Heat Big Bash League side having been omitted from the team through illness prior to a clash with the Hobart Hurricanes earlier this month.
Bazley was picked for the Queensland second XI four-day team in November on the back of a stellar start to the first grade season with Redlands, where he scored 227 runs at an average of 55 across the one and two day formats.
The all-rounder has since gone on to score 137 runs and claim five scalps in the club T20 season, putting him in the frame for Big Bash honours if his good form continues on the Sunshine Coast this weekend.
Bazley made his List A debut in 2015 for the Cricket Australia XI while playing for former club Sunshine Coast Scorchers, and has high hopes of returning to state level now that he has overcome a long injury battle.
The 24-year-old said he would love to play in the Big Bash having failed to do so while contracted to the Hobart Hurricanes.
"I am working hard towards that," Bazley said.
"It feels great to be selected (for the second XI). It was wonderful to play in this team for two four-day games before Christmas so to keep my spot in the team is awesome.
"My aims for the tournament are to play as well as I can by sticking to the things I've been doing well this year and enjoy it."
Bazley said his stellar form, which saw him pick up seven wickets in a second XI clash against Tasmania in November, was due to a change in mindset.
"I have been more consistent this year by improving a variety of mental skills."
Heazlett and Bazley will be looking to take a leaf out of Marnus Labuschagne's book during the tournament.
Their first grade teammate has been praised by cricket's international governing body for a groundbreaking 2019 with selection in the ICC Test Team of the Year.
Queensland's first game is against Tasmania on Monday at 2pm.
