BEDS R Us has refuted claims made on television that the company has collapsed, saying it is trading well, with a Redlands store one of 85 outlets operating across Australia.
Beds R Us spokeswoman Amanda Greenslade said Channel 7 program Sunrise falsely claimed that the company was one of six retail casualties last year and had gone into administration.
The claims were made during a story about the Hong Kong-owned clothing chain Jeanswest going into voluntary administration, reportedly putting 988 jobs at risk.
Ms Greenslade said the company's 85 businesses across Australia, including one at Victoria Point, were trading well and Beds R Us was in growth compared with the previous financial year.
"Many of our Beds R Us stores are in regional areas including some in bushfire affected zones and drought-stricken communities," she said.
"A few of our stores may be doing it tough, but we are a strong group, and this false news about being in administration is not helpful.
"Our members are hard-working Aussie battlers who employ local people, sell Australian-made mattresses and contribute to their communities all over Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and elsewhere."
The company lost eight of its Brisbane stores in 2018, including one at Capalaba, after a long-standing business owner walked away. Two of the stores reopened in 2019.
Ms Greenslade said store closures did not involve Beds R Us going into administration as the outlets were independently owned.
