Confetti exploded against a psychedelic light show as Sir Elton John sang Saturday to a roaring crowd at Sirromet. It was an explosive ending to an explosive show. Elton John knows how to say goodbye on what was his Farewell Yellow Brick Road show, played to tens of thousands as part of the day on the green series on January 18 and 19.
Besides the music, the show featured a backdrop of memories, including photographs spanning a 54-year touring career. There were also some poignant messages where Sir Elton urged people to "always ask for help" knowing there would always be someone able to offer it. The show also highlighted Sir Eton's philanthropic side and a personal crusade to see Aids cured.
He thanked the audience for its support in purchasing records and tickets for his shows over the years.
Fan Ron Puttee of Alexandra Hills said this was his 14th Sir Elton John concert.
"We come from the same part of London. I identify with his music," he said.
Facebook was awash with the enthusiasm of his fans who were not deterred from attending by inclement weather.
On Saturday, the rain prophetically held off until the final song, with a light fall for his encore numbers Your Song and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
