MOTORISTS could be stung $133 for parking unlawfully in a school loading zone or designated pick-up and drop-off area when school returns next week.
Council has warned that parking officers will be patrolling schools across the Redlands from the first day as part of an ongoing safety program aimed at keeping children, parents, pedestrians and motorists safe.
Anyone caught parking for longer than two minutes in a designated drop-off or pick-up zone will receive a fine as council brings the hammer down on tardy motorists.
"(They are) designed for drivers to quickly drop-off and pick-up children close to the school entrance and reduce traffic jams around each school," a council spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman did not say whether particular schools would be targeted or if there would be more officers out and about next week.
Tony Philpot received a ticket for $133 at 2.58pm in a loading zone where parking was limited to two minutes between 2pm and 4pm.
He appealed for leniency when the times on the sign were changed in September to limit parking between 2pm and 3pm.
Motorists are also being urged to slow down as 40km/h school zones come back into effect next week.
The speed limit is restricted from 7am to 9am and 2pm to 4pm on school days unless special circumstances have been granted by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
A 40km/h zone is in place from 7am to 4pm outside Thornlands State School.
Motorists found to be exceeding the limit by less than 13km/h will cop fines of $177 and one demerit point.
