VICTORIA Point retiree Betty Reading passed another milestone in Toowoomba last week as she celebrated her 90th birthday with triplet sisters Joan Woodford and Joy Fitzgerald.
The sisters were born on January 15, 1930 in Warwick and hold the title of being the oldest living triplets in Queensland.
They are just a few months off Melbourne sisters Helen Smith, Judy Beech and Barbara Dodd, who are believed to be the oldest living triplets in Australia.
Ms Reading's daughter-in-law Browyn Reading said the sisters celebrated their birthday in style with more than 100 families at Middle Ridge Golf Club.
"Joan had baked three separate cakes, one for each of them," she said.
"The triplets have always tried to get together for every birthday. When they couldn't they still stayed in touch with one another.
"My father-in-law was a postmaster so they got moved around all over the place to Winton, Millaa Millaa and Murgon. They lived all over so it was a bit difficult a few times to get together.
"One still lives alone and is able to live at home and the other two are in a retirement village, including Betty."
Ms Reading said the triplets, who come from a family of eight children, did everything together as children.
"They were born to William and Agnes O'Connor," she said. "That was their maiden name."
Ms Reading said she married her husband on January 25, 1975 and would often catch up with her her mother-in-law Betty.
"We moved around ourselves but we have always come up from wherever we lived to visit the parents wherever they have been," she said.
"The three of them are widowed now. Betty's husband Les passed away last year. They were both at Marebello.
"They are pretty unique. They have all been friends all their life and they have always looked out for one another."
