TEARS were shed across the Redlands as parents bid farewell to their children on the first day of the new school year.
It was a special occasion for four families at Cleveland State School, where three sets of twins and three triplet brothers started prep together.
The Neate family also enjoyed a special moment outside the school gates, with five-year-old Alden starting school at the same place as his father Regan and uncle Jason.
His grandfather Allan Neate, who taught at the school during the 1970s and 80s, was also there to see him off.
Associate professor Helen Askell-Willams of Flinders University said students should discuss strategies with teachers and parents to stay on top of their studies as the new year begins.
"Achievement can be a strong motivator and stress reducer," she said.
"Students can be supported to build achievement by setting short-term goals and small-step tasks to build their expertise and success.
"...Students can also be motivated by their perceived value of the topic to their future, by engaging presentations of the topic, by their peer's engagement in the topic, and by their own achievement in the topic."
Relationship and parenting expert Dr Karen Phillip has also shared her tips for helping students and parents settle into the new year. You can see them here.
