CONSTRUCTION on an internationally designed learning hub at Redlands College is nearing completion.
Stage one of the $11 million precinct is expected to open in April, giving students access to a cafeteria, coffee shop, hospitality classroom, administration offices, reception and a wellbeing precinct for counselling and support services.
The precinct - named College Heart - will also open its doors to the community, with evening cooking classes planned to commence after the first stage of the centre is completed.
Stage two of the project, due for completion in July, includes a new library, student meeting rooms, staff workspaces and a large covered area designed for performances and catered events.
Principal Dr Andrew Johnson said students would have access to a high quality physical environment that is designed to facilitate student collaboration, creativity and deep engagement with learning.
Head of senior school Rob Pattearson said the space would allow for teacher collaboration and innovative learning.
"These spaces have been designed to enhance...customisation of learning pathways to enable students to access a broad suite of learning opportunities."
Students like year four pupil Sam Slatter are excited for the opening of stage one in April.
"I can't wait until we move in and find all the new spaces to read in," he said.
College Heart has been built using funding from the state government and parent contributions.
