For NSW sheep grazier Janice Mammen, more generous rainfall has been heartbreakingly close.
But while her friends just 30km away received 60mm overnight, Ms Mammen's Orange Grove property in the northeast of the state got zero.
"It is tough. It is really, really heartbreaking to see but look, everyone needs it here," she told AAP on Saturday.
"We just have to be grateful that someone's getting it that needs it and you know, it is what it is.
"You can't make it rain if it doesn't want to rain."
Her property was faring better on Saturday, getting 14mm in a couple of hours, on top of 14mm they received up until Friday and a bit of rain a couple of weeks earlier.
Ms Mammen said it's better than nothing - "which is what we've had" - and getting follow-on rain was "amazing".
"They're saying this cell will hang around the next 24 hours so fingers crossed we get a little bit more," she said.
Getting some rain for feed would help take the pressure off after a quad bike accident in November took Ms Mammen's husband out of action.
"All of our sheep are licking dirt and have been now for well over two years so we've been hand-feeding now for two years," she said.
Pru Galton, whose family also owns a property out at Gunnedah, said they'd had a little bit of rain and it would make some difference but they still needed a lot more.
"It's not enough to break the drought but it's enough to lift everyone's spirits," she told AAP.
