The OWN in Capalaba celebrates its fifth birthday this month and will host the Queensland AGM this year.
Every month a group of friends meet to share morning tea, support each other and plan community projects.
The aim of the OWN is to improve and enrich the health and well being of older women through education, information, support and self help. The group encourages mutual support, enrichment and companionship among older women.
"We continually work towards enhancing the image of older women in the wider community," convenor Naomi Jarvis said.
Members have contributed to the community in a variety of ways including the Million Stars Project, World's Greatest Shave, Trauma Teddies for The Local Ambulance Committee, an Op Shop Fashion Parade and the homeless support group Night Ninjas.
"We have also participated in health and fitness activities with the aim of ageing well and strongly, including Parkrun, Alexander Therapy Technique, Laughter and Chair Yoga and Indoor Bowls," Naomi added.
The women discuss events and forthcoming guest speakers at their monthly meetings. One of the highlights this year will be the 2020 Queensland AGM hosted by Capalaba OWN. Members from eight branches throughout the State will attend.
The OWN meet on the first Wednesday of each month from 9am until 11.30am at the Uniting Church Hall in Capalaba. There is also a meeting on the third Wednesday of each month for morning tea.
