A SELF-EMPLOYED businessman and Rotarian will run for Cr Paul Golle's Division 3 seat at the local government election in March.
Terry Huckfield, who has lived in Thornlands for nine years since immigrating from the United Kingdom, said he had decided to throw his hat in the ring because he enjoyed working with the community and listening to ideas.
"I just want to be able to represent everybody as a whole," Mr Huckfield said.
"I don't care what your political background is, what your preferences are, I want to give everybody a fair representation on council.
"I don't want to just improve Thornlands, I want to improve the Redlands."
Mr Huckfield said the controversial Toondah Harbour development and bushfire hazard reduction planning were among the issues that he would need to address if elected.
He said the work he had done in the community for Redlands Rotary Club and other charity organisations would hold him in good stead to represent his constituents in Thornlands, Victoria Point and Cleveland.
"I have been in the aviation industry for 25 years working with public and working with people so I really feel that I am approachable and people can talk to me" Mr Huckfield said.
Mr Huckfield said he was not affiliated with any political parties and was willing to listen to the entire community.
"If there is a hole in the road it doesn't matter if you are Labor, Liberal or Greens, we need to get it fixed," he said.
"I will only do what the community gives me support for. I will give them support if they give me support."
Mr Huckfield said he had always been interested in running for council and would bring his business acumen to the table if elected.
"A lot of people I have spoken to have given me their support and said to me 'your ideas are good'," he said.
"The fact that I feel I am approachable, honest and hard working is why I want to run for council."
Mr Huckfield was born in England, grew up South Africa and immigrated to Australia with his family in 2009 before becoming a citizen in 2014.
He runs a business that specialises in building maintenance and has national service experience having served in the military for two years.
