The local businesswoman will run against Labor's Don Brown in Capalaba at the state election on October 31.

LNP Leader Deb Frecklington said Ms Walters had worked in the travel industry and founded her own agency after taking a career break to raise her children.

"Bev has bags of energy and she'll be a big voice for Capalaba. She is an entrepreneur and mum, so she knows how important a strong economy is for Queensland families," Ms Frecklington said.

The electorate also covers the suburbs of Alexandra Hills, Thorneside and Birkdale.

Ms Walters said most Redland classrooms still did not have air-conditioning.

"We need a stronger economy to deliver better health and education services in the Capalaba area. In the next seven months, I will show this electorate what positive, engaged and pro-active service to the community looks like," she said.
