REDLAND Bay is one step closer to another public boat ramp after Redland City Council resolved to negotiate the acquisition of land for the ramp, parking and recreational purposes.
The need for an additional boat ramp at Redland Bay was raised more than two years ago by the Department of Transport and Main Rands in its Queensland Recreational Boating Facilities Demand Forecasting Study.
Mayor Karen Williams said the Redlands Coast was a boaties paradise with one of the highest number of registered boat owners in the state.
"The beautiful Moreton Bay is a big part of why people love living here and council is committed to providing additional access to our bay and this is just one of several projects being looked at that will help us achieve that," Cr Williams said.
Councillor for Division 6 Julie Talty said that as part of the approval for the Shoreline development in southern Redland Bay, the developer would contribute towards the boat ramp.
"I am delighted it will benefit our existing residents - who have long expressed the need for another public boat ramp - as well as newcomers. This week's decision marks an important step in delivering for all. We can now start trying to acquire the land to make the boat ramp a reality," she said.
