Artists Beryl Home, Gillian Rich and Hilary Wakeling are on the collective cusp of almost 100 years of membership with the Coochie Art group.
The longerst serving member, Ms Rich joined the group in 1976. Ms Home has been in the group for 30 years and Ms Wakeling for 25. The membership has fostered the work of the three artists whe are known by local Redland art enthusiasts.
Ms Wakeling said when the Coochie group formed in 1972, artists first painted under the trees on Morwong Beach and later met in the Pullen Hall.
"The group's first exhibition was strung among the trees on the Coochiemudlo Island foreshore, under the threat of wind and rain. Thankfully we have moved on to better venues and now hold our annual art shows at RPAC in Cleveland," she said.
This year's event will be held in August.
The group hosts classes led by a variety of professional tutors who inspire the group to improve their work and explore new avenues of expression.
This term is being led by award winning watercolourist, Annette Raff who is covering design principles as well as free spirited landscapes.
There will also be eco printing with Lianne Counsell, coloured pencils with Jan Lawnikanis and acrylic with Jenni Kelly in the hall. The group welcomes visitors to the classes, if space permits and interested people can contact Gail McCallum on 0429 174 818 or gail.mccallum@bigpond.com to book. Cost for visitors is $40 per day for island residents and $50 for mainlanders.
