IN a bid to encourage social distancing, libraries, art galleries, visitor information centre and the IndigiScapes Environmental Education Centre will close from midday today.
Local disaster management group chairperson, Mayor Karen Williams, said public access to all these venues would be closed until further notice under council measures to limit the transmission of the COVID-19 virus in the community.
"The libraries' extensive online services will continue, including e-books, e-audio books, e-magazines, music, movies and children's stories.
"All loans have currently been extended until May 11 but book return chutes will be open until further notice so you do not need to enter the library to return items," she said.
There will be no fees for people who cannot return their books and wi-fi facilities will remain free and accessible around library buildings.
"The IndigiScapes centre and café will close but the nursery will remain open for the time being," Cr Williams said.
While the visitor information centre will be closed, information will still be available by phone on 1300 667 386 or on the Redlands Coast website.
Contractor-operated RecycleWorld at Redland Bay Waste Transfer Station and Cleveland Aquatic Centre's gym and indoor pool have also closed from today, with the pool cafe providing takeaway options only.
The driverless bus on Karragarra Island has also ceased operations until further notice.
Council CEO Andrew Chesterman said the closures came after the earlier closure of the Redland Performing Arts Centre currently until April 30.
"Council has also implemented social distancing measures in our customer service centres and encourages residents to use Council's online and telephone services as much as possible to help slow the spread of the virus on Redlands Coast," he said.
