DAN MURPHY'S only Redlands store at Victoria Point will have a perspex guard installed at its checkout as owners Woolworths Limited look to ramp-up measures to protect employees during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The shields are being installed across the country, with employees at a Mona Vale store in New South Wales among the first to trial the new measure.
The company has also increased its cleaning regime to deal with an influx of panic buyers.
A Woolworths Limited spokeswoman said the company was dedicated to improving social distancing at checkouts and had introduced contactless delivery.

"We are installing protective plexiglass screens at the manned checkouts across stores in Australia in the coming weeks to help social distancing between customers and store team," the spokeswoman said.
"The first screens have already been rolled out, and in the stores that do not yet have the screens, floor markings around registers will help customers maintain social distancing.
"We are also encouraging card payments from customers, we are operating contactless delivery and pick up and stores have a reduced maximum capacity of customers allowed to be inside the store at any single point in time."
