PRIMARY school students at Calvary Christian College are growing their own vegetables and learning to embrace healthy eating after bringing the school's community garden to life.
Grade three teacher Vanessa Tierney said she reached out to Bunnings Warehouse at Victoria Point and Loganholme to secure potting soil, fertiliser and seedlings that could be used to make the school's existing garden beds usable again.
"Both of the stores got back to me and said 'yes, they would love to help," Ms Tierney said.
"One lady from the Victoria Point store and one lady from the Loganholme store came out and helped us plant all the seedlings and did a worm farm presentation."
Ms Tierney said the Bunnings representatives also taught students how to harvest and prepare vegetables.
A worm farm kit, gardening tools, watering cans and gardening gloves were donated to the school during the visit.
Ms Tierney said they planned to use the garden as a way of giving back to the community.
"We have a Blue Care facility on our campus. Our goal was that if we could get our gardens up and running, we could make salads to give to the elderly," Ms Tierney said.
