EVERYONE in Australia should prepare for natural disasters, but these can take an even more dramatic turn for someone with dementia or mobility issues.
Seniors and aged carers need to be ready with an action plan in place.
Redland City local disaster coordinator John Oberhardt said it was particularly important for carers of elderly people to plan for extreme weather events well ahead of storm and bushfire season.
"We have seen unprecedented bushfires across the nation this season - including on North Stradbroke Island late last year - followed by severe storms," Mr Oberhardt said.
"These circumstances test the resilience of everyone affected but particularly those who are frail and vulnerable.
"In these cases disaster planning will often fall to their carers, whose forethought can ease the stress of such an event considerably."
