Not the season, but there are still plenty of bream around in rivers and creeks, especially of an evening by those using bait.
Banana prawn catches have been good in areas including 100m off the Redland Bay boat ramp, off Nudgee and the Saltworks off the south-west of Macleay Island. They have also reappeared in the Logan River.
Further north, there are still good catches in the deeper water on the bends in the Pine and Caboolture rivers.
Those fishing in the same areas the prawns are being caught have landed flathead and mulloway as well.
Whiting and flathead were the main species caught this week, and it has been well worth putting pots in for a muddy, especially in the southern bay, Jumpinpin and the Logan River. Sand crabs have also been in numbers off Wellington Point, around the Banana Bank south to Macleay Island and the western side of North Stradbroke Island.
Trolling lures along canal walls has turned up a few mangrove jack and trevally. Moving closer to a bar entrance, there has been mulloway in the deeper holes.
In the surf, dart are in big numbers all day and there are choppers to 2kg at sunset and into the night.
In Moreton Bay, there has been a good run of snapper on most artificial reefs and wrecks. There's also been a few school mackerel in the bay, they are moving around inside South Passage and up the western side of Moreton Island and the northern end of the Rainbow Channel.
The Brisbane River is still producing good catches of threadfin, mulloway and plenty of bream.
On the offshore scene, Spanish mackerel have been caught and there's still a few dolphinfish hanging around structure. But it can be hard to get them to bite, live slimies are the best bait.
Still pearlies on the wider wire weed grounds, once again live bait is the key; slabs will produce fish but the size is a lot smaller. There's still plenty of trag around, especially at night. On the freshwater scene, most impoundments, parks and camping grounds are closed - check before you travel.
