STAR Community Services is encouraging elderly people to stay connected with loved ones while in isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through the STAR Tech training program, elderly participants are being taught how to maintain social connections with friends and family during the current period of physical divide.
Organisers host tutorials remotely each week, allowing participants to log on from the comfort of their own home.
Participant Bobby Flower said she was being taught how to use video chat to talk to her grandson while unable to see him in person.
Victoria Point residents Dorothy and Michael Byrnes, meanwhile, were learning about apps and blogging.
The program has also been a saviour for avid reader Denise Wright, who said having access to eBooks was wonderful while libraries were closed.
"Thanks to the STAR Tech course, I can now download the books I like and read them online," she said.
Course coordinator Neha Shukla said volunteers were providing support and training to help boost the elderly's confidence in technology.
"What's unique about STAR Tech is that the program includes a device along with training and support," she said.
"Each participant receives an Android tablet. Training is adapted for each participant to cater for all skills levels - from beginners to those who have prior experience but need to sharpen their digital skills."
