THE first stage of a long-awaited $45 million Cleveland-Redland Bay road upgrade is set to begin in the coming weeks.
More than 20 jobs in road construction would be on the cards, with phase one of the project to include duplication of Cleveland-Redland Bay Road north of the Anita Street intersection and an upgrade of the intersection itself.
Residents have called for an upgrade to the Anita Street T-junction for more than 15 years. Survey works for traffic lights at the intersection began in late 2018.
Redlands MP Kim Richards said phase one of the project would also see key sections of the road upgraded between the Boundary Road roundabout and Magnolia Parade and at the intersection of German Church Road.
"Plenty of families are staying in their neighbourhoods and at home, making this a good time for crews to get stuck into this important upgrade," Ms Richards said.
"Not only does it pave the way for a better road along this normally busy stretch when COVID-19 is over, right now it's providing much-needed injection in the local economy as well as crucial employment for many road workers."
Road works would also take place along Colburn Avenue to the entrance of Victoria Point Bunnings.
The Colburn Avenue entrance to the Town Centre shops will also be rebuilt as part of the upgrade.
Access to the Town Centre shops will be maintained along Cleveland-Redland Bay Road throughout the duration of works, however access via Colburn Avenue will be temporarily closed as the entrance/exit is rebuilt.
The initial works would take about eight weeks to complete, construction and weather conditions permitting.
"If you do need to travel for an essential reason, please keep an eye out for road crews and drive to conditions," Ms Richards said.
