BOWMAN MP Andrew Laming says there is a high chance of a second coronavirus wave but assures it could be managed without the need to revisit wholesale lockdown measures.
Mr Laming said the response to a second outbreak would be localised, with only single businesses or schools to shut down if a case was traced to a worker or student.
"I think the odds of another outbreak are very high but manageable," he said.
"Getting an outbreak is not a failure. Like a flu, cases are going to reappear somewhere.

"There'll be someone who moves across the border with a work permit but in fact may well bring back a case.
"We can manage it without closing down the state. It would be a tailored response with a local lockdown."
Mr Laming said contact tracing would be used to identify a carrier and stop the spread.
"We need to make sure it is picked-up quickly and the most important test of all will be to exhaustively contact traced until it spreads further," he said.
"Because you've already lost five days by the time someone presents, you have to quickly go back and find those 40 people on average that a person spent more than 15 minutes with.
"If you can't do that quick enough, that's where an isolated outbreak becomes a second wave.
"Our system is ready to contact trace at that rate."
Concerns for a second wave come as people flood shopping centres, parks and beaches amid relaxations to restrictions on recreational travel and gatherings.
Mr Laming said he was disappointed that the state government had waited a week to introduce the measures outlined in the three step plan announced by National Cabinet last Friday.
He also questioned whether there was a need to wait until June 12 to begin the second stage of relaxed restrictions.
"While I have said that better safe than sorry sounds good, you could lock yourself up until Christmas using that principle," he said.
"The science tells us that after 14 days, 100 per cent of cases are known and if there was going to be a spike you would know about it.
"I am arguing the Premier needs to have a hard conversation at 14 days with a view to relaxing at 21 days."
No new coronavirus cases were recorded on Monday, while there were just 18 active cases across the state.
