A GENEROUS donation from Bartons Capalaba has helped Redlands Rugby League Club take their pop-up bottle shop on the road.
The club are the proud owners of a personalised, $35,000 Nissan dual cab ute which they have been using to deliver alcohol to members across the Redlands.
Club president Todd Flahey said he had been blown away by the generosity of the dealership and believed the donation would help the club stay afloat during the coronavirus pandemic.
"They are doing it just as tough as everyone else. No one is really buying cars at the moment but they are still helping the community," he said.
"I am blown away. I have no words. People like that are the heart and soul of the community.
"Even if the circumstances were different, it is amazing. At the moment they are so generous and have helped us keep our club alive."
The club started a drive-through bottle shop at Pinkands Sporting Complex in April and have been running online raffles to stay on top of mounting costs while the rugby league season is on hold.
Flahey told the Redland City Bulletin in March that the club had lost its major revenue sources and were in need of an income stream to pay the bills.
Renovations to the clubhouse were also put on hold at the time while the club missed out on a lucrative Intrust Super Cup match between Wynnum-Manly and Ipswich when the season was cancelled.
Bartons Capalaba general manager Shawn Price said the dealership had donated the car to give back to the club.
"We want to support the community that has supported us for so long," he said.
"Redlands is a small community-run rugby league club that we want to support."
Price said Bartons was looking to help out the community in any way they could during the pandemic.
He said they had been donating face masks to the elderly, filling up cars with cheap petrol and raising money for Redlands RSL.
Flahey said the club was welcoming other businesses doing it tough to sell food out of their car park.
"We have had someone come out every week and cook up and earn themselves a bit of money," Flahey said.
"We are just doing anything we can to help the community.
"Every time I speak to someone you realise how tough some people are doing it."
