WARM up the vocal cords, a date and line-up for the first drive-in concert in Queensland has been announced and the Redland Showgrounds are set to play host.
The show - to be held on Saturday, June 13 - will be headlined by Australian music icon Russell Morris with accompanying acts from The Soul Movers and Masters of Pop.
Tickets go on sale at 9am this Wednesday but buyers will need to get in fast with spots likely to be capped at about 270.
Organiser and local musician Michael 'China' Walker said the cars would be set up in a checker board fashion to ensure social distancing was observed during the show.
He said the idea behind a drive-in concert was to get musicians playing live and earning a living while gatherings were restricted.
"All the other industries are sort of slowly coming out of this and they have some kind of light at the end of the tunnel but that is not the case for people in the entertainment sector because we rely on gatherings of people," he said.
"No one has said when those numbers will return. It could be years away. We like going out there and doing our thing.
"It is not a huge amount of money but we get by and that is not available to us at the moment."
Concert goers will have direct access to the musicians on stage through Zoom video conferencing software.
Mr Walker said it would be used as a way of increasing the interaction with fans during the show.
"The good part is, if you can see us, we can see you," he said.
"We will have a smaller screen that we can see on stage so we can talk to people."
Mr Walker grew-up in the Redlands, attending Thornlands State School and Cleveland District State High School.
He left to play music interstate after graduating in 1979 but returned to live on the block of land he grew up on 20 years ago.
He said his connection to the Redlands was why he chose the showgrounds as concert hosts.
The success of the first show would dictate if more drive-in events were held in future.
This is a whole new world and I don't know what to expect," Mr Walker said.
"I am reasonably confident that there will be more than just this one.
"From my side of things, I hope that people will like the idea, come along and be a part of it which means that if we get a full house, we could put another one."
