IT is full steam ahead for the $15 million upgrade to the Alexandra Hills TAFE campus.
The redevelopment of the new nursing and allied health facilities is set to be completed later this month and expanded plumbing training spaces due to be finished by October 2020.
Minister for Training and Skills Development Shannon Fentiman visited the campus yesterday to inspect how the works were progressing.
"Our Economic Recovery Strategy: Unite and recover for Queensland jobs set three priorities - building vital infrastructure, strengthening industries and enabling future growth - and our training sector has a major role to play, she said.
Ms Fentiman said the investment was part of a plan to revitalise TAFE campuses across the state with a $105 million infrastructure program which supported around 350 full time jobs during construction.
There were currently between 200 and 300 workers on the Alex Hills project with 40-50 apprentices.
Capalaba MP Don Brown said the construction works on Blocks K and M at the campus were progressing.
"They are employing current apprentices, tradespeople and workers now and will support our future skilled workforce once completed," Mr Brown said.
Redlands MP Kim Richards said automotive, engineering and welding workshops would also be revitalised with demolition works set to start soon.
"We know we need more skilled health workers and trades people. TAFE Queensland offer training for our young people in the Redlands region, and these new facilities will ensure we have the space for our growing community," Ms Richards said.
The modernised nursing training facilities would include mini hospital wards and be consistent with other TAFE Queensland health training facilities.
Grace Sells and Kyle Ten Broeke were currently studying nursing and visited the site to see the progress of the new facility.
"I chose nursing as I am a diabetic and hope to get into diabetes education once I am finished studying," Mr Ten Broeke said.
Both students agreed TAFE's practical, hands-on experience was a highlight and were looking forward to the new nursing facility opening.
