REDLANDS Sporting Club has endured a tricky period without customers during the coronavirus pandemic but its charity arm has earned recognition for its contribution to the community.
The Redland Foundation beat several contenders from across the state to win Keno and Clubs Queensland's heart of the community award.
Foundation chairman and former Redlands Mayor Don Seccombe said it had been important for the foundation to keep the community rich by harnessing the generosity of locals.
"When you have all the community organisations encouraging people in the community to become volunteers, the community becomes richer," he said.
"If you keep older people involved in the community, they've got expertise that will fall away unless we do that.
"Helping keep those community organisations strong keeps the community rich."
The Redlannd Foundation has given away $2.7 million in the past five years to sporting teams, charities, schools, Lions and Rotary clubs.
Club Queensland acting chief executive Dan Nipperess said the club had gone above and beyond what was expected of them to support the community.
"This is what community clubs do best," he said.
"We connect the community for a common cause and this collaborative effort, driven by this club, has truly delivered a service that has helped the lives of people in the Redlands area."
Clubs Queensland moved their annual awards ceremony online this year.
It was scheduled to be held in March but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
