IT has taken years of lobbying but the security cameras at Wellington Point Recreation Reserve are finally being installed.
Councillor Wendy Boglary hoped the cameras would curb anti-social behaviour as residents had been plagued by hoons for years.
She had pushed hard for cameras at Wellington Point and fought to change the Redland City Council CCTV policy to include anti-social behaviour.
"This has come after several years of lobbying other councillors to secure support, and I am so relieved to see the cameras finally being installed due to the impact of hooning in the area," she said.
Cr Boglary said there was a camera specifically used to read number plates at night that would be installed before the cameras were switched on.
"The cameras will give police another tool in their work against anti-social behaviour to reduce the impact on our community who have preserved for years with disrespectful and intimidating behaviour night after night," she said.
Last year Redland City Council secured a $260,000 grant for cameras and improvements to council's asset management strategy from the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.
Capalaba MP Don Brown said he had experienced first-hand the hooning at Wellington Point.
"It is great to see that Cr Boglary and the Redland City Council took the opportunity to apply for state government grants for this project.
"I hope this can lead to the prevention of hooning down at the point," he said.
