BORN at 23 weeks baby Bodie defied the odds, determined to survive after his twin brother died.
Alexandra Hills mum Christie Thompson gave birth to twins about 14 weeks before her due date.
The tiny siblings were delivered by emergency cesarean section after Christie woke with cramps and was rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.
"Bodie is the surviving twin. Both babies were born asphyxiated and were incubated but his brother Marcus could not be resuscitated and died," Christie said.
Bodie weighed 478 grams, had paper thin skin and was incubated for four months. Christie could not hold her baby or even touch him for 12 days.
"I took one day at a time. There were so many tears - of sadness and joy.
"In total he spent 172 days in hospital, had to have surgery on hernias in his abdomen and groin and we also discovered he had profound hearing loss," she said.
The toddler also had small brain bleeds, a hole in his heart which healed itself and lazer treatment to rectify his weak vision.
Now 11-months-old Bodie is all smiles and Christie said he has met the developmental milestones for his age.
He is very vocal and active, pulling himself up on furniture and crawling around the lounge.
"All premmies are miracles, but Bodie has so much fight and determination in him," Christie said.
According to Queensland Health every year, approximately 27,000 babies were born too early in Australia.
