LOCAL pinup girl Hilly Monroe hosted two online pageants honouring vintage wearing gals and tattooed and bright haired pinups.
The Birkdale beauty hosted online pageants, Miss Vintage Vamp and Miss Kustom Kulture shining the spotlight on the vintage culture.
An internationally published pinup and hostess, Miss Hilly said she sticks holes in people for a living, which earned her the title of The Pinup Piercer.
"I've been working in the body mod industry for more than three years and I'm loving it. I believe that piercings and tattoos are a great an personally unique way to express yourself and who you are," she said.
She began her pinup journey as a pageant entrant, which sparked an interest in pageant hosting where she could use her talkative nature on stage.
The online pageant had 25 finalists from across Australia and judges had the arduous task of choosing winners in each category. The winners were from NSW and Victoria, with Peoples choice NSW and SA, and the encouragement award winners both from Queensland.
Bettie Butcher from Pinups of Australia said it was a groundbreaking event, being one of the first live streamed events, and being one of the first pageants to welcome a drag queen finalist.
"This created friendships and networks so that during the pandemic we could feel the connection of our community with regular zoom video calls and chats. This helped to lift pinups out of a rut and give a sense of purpose during hard times," she said.
Miss Hilly said Pinups of Australia was a community platform, where members shared events, supported fellow pinups, small businesses and more.
"We're all about positive vibes and inclusivity. Everyone is welcome at Pinups of Australia. I've had a love for the pin up scene for years, so I gave it a go and I haven't looked back," she said.
