FORMER Victoria Point local Luke Bellamy has teamed up with two friends to take on a gruelling running challenge in support of mental health charity LIVIN.
The 22-year-old, who attended Victoria Point State High School, will run five kilometres every four hours over the course of two days.
So far the three friends have raised almost $2500 for LIVIN despite being more than three weeks out from the start of the challenge.
"It has been unreal," Mr Bellamy said. "We didn't realise we would get so much in such a short amount of time.
"I think we made the fundraiser two weeks ago and we made the majority of that money in the first week.
"We have still got about a month to go and hopefully we can exceed the $3000 mark and keep making a lot of money for the cause."
The challenge is to be completed over 48 hours starting on Friday, July 31.
Mr Bellamy said the group had mapped out a route at Kangaroo Point and had been training hard to ensure they were physically prepared for the challenge.
"Obviously sleep deprivation is going to be a huge factor but we are getting a lot of our friends to run some of the laps with us so hopefully that makes it a bit easier," he said.
Mr Bellamy met friends Billy O'Mealley and Ged Moriarty while playing touch football at university.
He said it was through the team that the group decided to support LIVIN.
"Being a bunch of boys we kind of joke around a bit but we have a culture in our team where if something is really going on, we can talk to each other," Mr Bellamy said.
People can support the charity by donating to the group's Facebook page.
They hope to raise $3000 by the end of the challenge.
