Sisu Cafe at Victoria Point thanks community, government for support after business survives coronavirus closure

Sisu Cafe owner Anna Hobbs said the business took about a $20,000 to $30,000 hit from the virus and would have had to close down without government grants.

She thanked staff at nearby Victoria Point State School and local residents for visiting the cafe while take-away only restrictions were in place.

"The teachers had no students but they were still working so they actually had time to grab a cafe, get some morning tea and get some lunch," Ms Hobbs said.

"For the first two weeks they were fantastic but then we had to close."

Ms Hobbs said she had remained optimistic while the shop was unable to trade for six weeks but found herself doing a lot of soul searching while mulling the business' future.

She said staff were now back into the normal swing of things and the business was moving on to a new venture thanks to a $10,000 government grant.

The business also put some money towards renovations, paying off bills and restocking its shelves.

"With this COVID-19 adaption grant, it is setting us up for external catering," Ms Hobbs said.

"We have the menus, we have the spit, we have the warmers and the website is on its way.

"We were hoping and planning (for the catering venture) and as soon as we were told we were successful (for the grant), we got started."

The cafe will now make a range of food on site, including spit roasts and Scandinavian meals.

Treasurer Cameron Dick and Redlands MP Kim Richards visited the cafe yesterday on the election trail and enjoyed one of the business' milkshakes.
