THE opening of the Smell the Coffee exhibition was a big hit for Russell Island residents and visitors over the weekend.
About 80 people gathered at the gallery at the end of Robert Street for the launching of the exhibition on Saturday, July 25.
Kinga Rypinska took home first prize for her work, while Andre Gravett and Stella Pastellas were second prize winners.
Lynda Faulkner, Robyn Joargenson, Evelyn Griffiths and Wendy Dawkins won Highly Commended awards for their works.
Ms Faulkner also took home the People's Choice award.
Smell The Coffee exhibition - created by Jeannette Howard - is open daily from 9.30am to 12.30pm until Sunday, August 23.
Residents can visit the Gallery at the end of Robert Street, Russell Island and enjoy a coffee made by Rosie at Island Beans, just outside.
Also on the calendar for this month is the first Russell Island Lantern Parade at the Farm, Art House and Gallery on Saturday, August 22.
The event - set to be a hit with children and families - is scheduled for 5.30pm to 6.30pm and will include music, singing and nibbles.
Sylvia Gillard is teaching palette knife techniques for oil painters on Tuesday, August 25 from 9.30am to 12.30pm for the normal activity fee of $5.
Markets are starting up again and will be held on Saturday, September 5 from 10am to 2pm.
Residents can visit the markets for bric a brac, arts and crafts, plants, a sausage sizzle, Devonshire tea and to visit the gallery. For more information, contact Mandy on 0460 404 499.
Coinciding with the markets, Trisha Dobson has an open weave residency at RICArts, opening on Saturday, September 5.
Workshops will also be held on Saturday 12 and Saturday, closing after the final session with a picnic.
