The Ekka remains alive this year to Cleveland photographic artist Sylvain Minier whose works depicting the Ekka are on exhibition at the Art From The Margins gallery in Fortitude Valley.
The exhibition features Mr Minier's photographs of the colour and vibrancy of the Ekka in full swing in contrast with the AFTM group and their photos of an empty RNA showgrounds this year.
The photographs also depict Mr Minier's love for the Ekka, despite it being cancelled this year.
Mr Minier said he had been taking images of just about everything since he received his first camera at age 10.
In 2010 he entered an art competition at AFTM as an artist with a vision impairment.
He won an award with an image entitled Kamikaze, a composition consisting of at least seven rides.
"Now I try to go to the Ekka every year to take memories of all the wonderful things on offer. It's disappointing the Ekka won't be on this year but you can take yourself and the kids to the AFTM Gallery to enjoy all the beautiful images I have taken at the Ekka over the years," he said.
Sylvain was the Art from the Margins artist of the month for July this year. He is also a member of RedArts. With the support of Wesley Mission Queensland, AFTM has expanded its services and art prize to artists living with adversity throughout the Brisbane region and beyond. The gallery aims to transform the lives of those experiencing adversity and disability through the joy of art, by being a leading provider of visual arts programs and opportunities for disadvantaged artists in Queensland.
Entry to the photographic exhibition is free and is open until September 18 in Wesley Mission Building, 136 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley. It is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm.
