Hard work and academic achievement has gained a Harding Miller education foundation academic scholarship for Ziqi Zhao.
A Year 9 student at Wellington Point State High school, Ziqi was one of 130 winners to be awarded the two-year scholarship against a field of more than 400 students.
Ziqi said she felt honoured and grateful to receive the award.
"I feel beyond ecstatic. I know that the scholarship is going to be a massive help academically and give me the resources and support I needed to perform to my best potential," Ziqi said.
The Harding Miller education foundation supports school girls who are hardworking and high academic achievers. It provides tools and support to optimise academic success and achieve career aspirations.
Scholarship recipients receive new laptops, high speed internet, face-to-face and online tutoring, subject and career guidance, mentoring and financial support to help cover the costs of uniforms, books and school expenses
The two-year scholarships are awarded to students in Year 9 and at the end of year 10 the recipients can re-apply for further support for two years. The four years of scholarship support is valued at more than $20,000.
Executive Director at foundation Cara Varian said Ziqi was very deserving of the scholarship.
"We are so pleased to announce Ziqi as one of the scholarship recipients for 2020. We are focussed on providing talented, hardworking and high achieving young Australian women with tools, resources and support to help them reach their full potential. Ziqi is well deserving of the 2-year scholarship and we are sure it will help her achieve success in coming years and put her in a position to fulfill tertiary education and career aspirations after school," Ms Varian said.
"We encourage any other local young girls who may need support to consider applying for a Harding Miller Education Foundation scholarship."
Since its launch in 2015 the foundation has supported 470 scholarship recipients. Applications for scholarships for 2021 are open until September 23.
