A TOTAL of 171 Redland residents will get training on the job under the state government's Skilling Queenslanders for Work program.
Six organisations including The Cage Youth Foundation and yourtown have been awarded a total of $455,500 to deliver on-the-job training.
The programs will be for people with qualifications like a Certificate II in Hospitality, a Certificate III in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways or a Certificate III in Individual Support.
Redlands MP Kim Richards said the funds would make sure those who needed it most would have the skills and qualifications to stay in a job.
"During this global pandemic, economies around the world have been hit hard and the Redlands is not immune," she said.
"Queensland's plan for economic recovery from the global pandemic is centred around jobs, and the Skilling Queenslanders for Work program is an important part of our plan."
Training Minister Shannon Fentiman said more than 5000 Queenslanders would benefit from the latest round of funding.
"Almost 31,000 people have found jobs thanks to participating in a Skilling Queenslanders for Work project since 2015 and we want that number to grow," she said.
"Investing in programs like these will open doors to more opportunities for Queenslanders while helping to drive our economy."
The $42 million funding provides for more than 200 projects.
The program funds skills development, training and job opportunities for unemployed, disengaged or disadvantaged Queenslanders through skills and training.
Seventy-three per cent of participants find work, take on further training or return to school about 12 months after exiting a skilling project.
