SURF Life Saving Queensland will name a Surf Woman of the Year next year, a revitalisation of the Surf Girl flagship program, which has been in operation since 1964.
The new program was unveiled at the Surf Girl gala dinner at the Gold Coast.
Point Lookout lifesaving Ann-Sophie Sullivan was one of eight lifesavers from across the state in the finals of the 2020 Surf Girl.
She was pipped at the post by Sonita Leng-Cole from Alexandra Headland SLSC.
Surf Woman of the Year is a step forward in the progression of SLSQ's Surf Girl program, which has seen more than 1000 women raise $17 million for surf lifesaving clubs in 56 years.
The Surf Woman of the Year program, targeted at women over the age of 18, seeks to engage women from surf lifesaving clubs and develop their skills and experience to further their careers within and outside the organisation.
The program will also connect women from across the state and in turn build a powerful alumni network.
The winner will get a prize package worth $20,000.
