A 21-year-old Dunwich man has been charged and will appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court after allegedly evading police during a routine school zone patrol last week.
Police allege the man was travelling on Welsby Street, Dunwich, in a Mitsubishi Pajero with no plates at 8.05am last Wednesday.
The man turned onto Sally Street after seeing a police car perform a u-turn in his direction.
Police turned on their lights and siren and followed the man onto Petrie Terrace before he accelerated away on Frazer Street.
The 21-year-old male was located and charged on Sunday and is due to appear in court on September 22.
The next day, an unaccompanied 21-year-old learner driver was issued two infringement notices after crashing his car on Dickson Way at Dunwich.
Police allege the driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his Pajero into a ditch on the side of the road about 11.30pm on Thursday.
The car sustained minor damage and the 21-year-old was issued with infringement notices for failing to have proper control and being an unaccompanied learner driver.
Police are awaiting the results of blood samples to determine whether the man had alcohol or drugs in his system.
It has not been confirmed whether the incidents were connected.
"Fatigue is one of the fatal five and it was pure luck that this crash didn't have a more serious outcome," Dunwich Police Station Officer in Charge Sergeant Darren Scanlan said.
