EARLIER: Queensland Fire and Rescue fire fighting crews are battling a grass fire burning along East Coast Road on North Stradbroke Island.
The road is the main thoroughfare between Dunwich facing the mainland and Point Lookout on the island's north-eastern side.
The fire is near Industrial Court which is at Myora and not far south-west of the Myora Caravan Park.
A QFES spokesperson said the fire broke out earlier today and was no threat to property at this stage.
Firefighters were working to contain the fire through back burning with the help of water bombing aircraft.
North-west to north-east winds have been gusting to 37km/hr in Moreton Bay today.
In June Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation started a four-month hazard reduction program on the fire-prone island.
It is part of the island's bushfire management strategy, which was developed after devastating blazes ripped across the island in 2014. They impacted 70 per cent of the island and led to mass evacuations.
The June mitigation program saw 13 kilometres of fire trails strengthened and mitigation burns around townships.
Burns also were conducted by Redland City Council on the mainland, including the Scribbly Gums Conservation Area at Alexandra Hills, Squirrel Glider Conservation Area at nearby McMillan Road, Heinemann Road and Sanctuary Drive conservation areas at Mount Cotton and Bayview Conservation Area at nearby Redland Bay. Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service also conducted a burn at the Daisy Hill Conservation Park.
QFES has warned that nearby residents might be affected by smoke from the Straddie fire.
Residents are asked to close windows and doors and if suffering from a respiratory condition, keep medications close by.
Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions. If residents are concerned their property is under threat, they should call triple zero (000) immediately.
