NURSE and former council candidate Irene Henley will contest the seat of Oodgeroo as Labor's candidate.
Ms Henley, who ran for Division 2 in this year's council election, moved to the Redlands in 2005.
She has 25 years' experience as a nurse and has worked at Redland Hospital as the nursing director in mental health and as the manager for mental health education and research in south-east Queensland.
She is a member of the local ZONTA Club, Donald Simpson Community Centre and the Chamber of Commerce.
Ms Henley said she was proud to be part of the Labor team to support Queensland's recovery from the impacts of the global pandemic.
"The Palaszczuk Government's nation leading health response has kept Queenslanders safe and healthy, and put our state in the best possible position for economic recovery," Ms Henley said.
"I will work alongside my Oodgeroo community to reinvigorate local businesses and get Queenslanders back to work."
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Ms Henley had the experience and energy to be a strong voice for the Oodgeroo electorate.
"We need local champions like Irene to help deliver our COVID-19 economic recovery plan in their area, to support businesses, restore local jobs, and encourage more industry so we can future-proof our great state," she said.
"Economies around the world have been impacted by the global coronavirus pandemic. Australia is not immune. Queensland is not immune.
"We're continuing to manage the health response and Queensland's plan for economic recovery is well underway. That means we're supporting local businesses and local jobs."
Ms Henley will run against incumbent Mark Robinson and former mayoral candidate Claire Richardson, who is standing as an independent.
Mr Robinson has held the seat for 11 years. He has a healthy margin of 5.7 per cent.
The Oodgeroo electorate runs along the coastal strip and includes North Stradbroke Island.
The state election will be held on October 31.
