A 24-year-old Brisbane man has been issued a speeding fine after police said he was clocked travelling at 105km/h in a 60km/h zone on North Stradbroke Island.
Police stopped the man, who was carrying a large load on his vehicle's roof, about 10am on Sunday morning while patrolling Main Beach.
Sergeant Darren Scanlan said when police pulled him over, the 24-year-old had been travelling in an area where a number of holiday makers had gathered.
"That speed, combined with the load of the vehicle and the washouts, was a recipe for disaster," he said.
"It could have had fatal consequences for the driver and his passenger as conditions are always changing on the beach and the vehicle could have easily rolled."
Police catch kids on dirt bikes
TWO Dunwich boys will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act after they were allegedly caught riding unregistered and uninsured trail bikes at 130km/h in a 60km/h zone on Sunday.
The 12-year-old and 14-year-old were stopped by police on Alfred Martin Way near North Stradbroke Island Golf Course about 1.30pm.
Sergeant Scanlan said police were stunned to find two youths driving the bikes.
"I have no words," Sergeant Scanlan said. "I just don't know what the boys were thinking.
"That road is not in the best condition, there is also wildlife crossing.
"Some may call this an afternoon of misadventure by the boys, however unlike a video game, there is no respawning if you are involved in a crash at that speed."
