Expressions of interest are invited for a director for Sailing South, a play by Judith Prior to be presented as the Australia Day production at the Redland Museum by Mates Theatre Genesis. The production will be staged from January 25 to February 7 next year.
The play, which is described as being between a farce and an adult pantomime, is a tall tale of a tall ship, set in England in the 1850s.
The Honourable Justice Eustace McDonald is horrified to learn that his mother Lavinia has enlisted him in the navy. His commission, the good ship Venus, crewed with ticket of leave prisoners is fraught with audience participation and threats of mutiny. Purser, Francois who believes a healthy mind creates a healthy body leads recreation activities aboard the ship, a rollicking romp set on the high seas enroute to colonial Australia.
The play features a cast of 11. Rehearsals start in October.
