Acoustic music club, Folk Redlands will returns from lock down, hosting live events from October 18 in a new venue at the Victoria Point Bowls and Recreation club, 3 Poinciana Avenue.
The group, which was based at Indigiscapes for more than 10 years, has been homeless since the closure of the centre for renovations during 2019. Throughout 2019 and up until March this year, Folk Redlands has been moonlighting at the Redland Modern Country Music Club headquarters in Pinklands. Increased hire costs at Indigiscapes since its re-opening in February has forced the club to find a new home.
President Geoff Carwardine has negotiated space at Victoria Point, which he hopes will be a winning situation for all parties.
"We'll provide live music on a Sunday afternoon and hope to build a new following. For the last few months, we have been hosting virtual blackboards online via Zoom and facebook, but there's nothing better than meeting face to face," Mr Carwardine said.
As well as providing opportunities for local musicians of all abilities, the club provides an important social outlet, particularly for those who might otherwise feel alone and isolated.
Alive Again will be an informal blackboard/open mic session from 1pm to 4pm, promising a great variety of music, and opportunities to jam together, while observing a COVID safe plan. Walk- In performers are welcome.
Entry is free, although donations will be welcomed, and there will be a raffle.
The event will be preceded at 11am to noon with the club's annual general meeting. All committee positions will become vacant at the AGM, and election of the new committee will be conducted. Members and friends are encouraged to attend, and the club appeals to members to nominate for the committee and assist with the running of the group.
Club members are keen to have assistance with publicity, social media and website updates and event promotion. Anyone wishing to participate can join up at the AGM or online at their website: www.folkredlands.org
Folk Redlands is a not for profit club with a focus on bringing people together through music. Regular events are held on the third Sunday of the month.
