Three on charges after drugs' search
SEARCHES of several North Stradbroke Island homes have come up trumps for police, with three people to appear in court this month after being found in possession of dangerous drugs.
Police carried out search warrants after receiving anonymous tips, some of which had been made through Crime Stoppers.
Drugs ranging from cocaine to cannabis were allegedly uncovered and a range of smoking paraphernalia seized on Wednesday.
A Point Lookout man, 49, is among those to face court after being found with 12.7 grams of cocaine, 29 grams of cannabis and drug utensils at his property.
A 21-year-old woman from Point Lookout was also charged after police found three cannabis plants and drug utensils at her home.
The raids continued at Dunwich where a 26-year-old woman was found with 2.7 grams of cannabis, cannabis seeds and drug utensils.
A 54-year-old Amity Point woman has been order to the drug diversion program after police found 3.9 grams of cannabis, a pipe and grinder.
Sergeant Darren Scanlan thanked residents.
"Drugs are a scourge on the community," he said. "They cause so many social and mental health issues and we as a community suffer as a result.
"I thank those members of the community who provided anonymous information to Crime Stoppers regarding these drug users living among us.
"I encourage community members to contact Crime Stoppers ... so we can work together and rid the island of drugs." Those charged will appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court later this month.
