TWO men will face court this month after being nabbed for drink driving at North Stradbroke Island, with one blowing more than twice the legal alcohol limit.
A 52-year-old Amity man was clocked travelling at 107km/h in a 80km/h zone and returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.108 after being pulled over by police.
He had been travelling on East Coast Road at Point Lookout about 11.15am on Sunday.
His license was immediately suspended and he is due to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on October 26.
East Coast Road was a hot spot for fines over the weekend, with a 28-year-old Brisbane man also caught drink driving.
The man returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.084 and is due to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on October 27.
He had been travelling at 55km/h in an 80km/h zone when police pulled him over.
Sergeant Darren Scanlan said in both cases, the speed of the vehicles had raised police suspicions.
"In both instances it was the speed of the vehicles which alerted police. One was speeding and the other was driving well under the speed limit," Sergeant Scanlan said.
Child caught with firecrackers
A 17-year-old boy will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act after being caught up in a firecracker incident at Dunwich.
Police heard explosions on Friday night and came across a group of youths on Ballow Road.
A member of the group was seen lighting a firecracker and throwing it down a hill.
Police approached the group and found the boy with firecrackers in his jacket.
Sergeant Scanlan said it was illegal to possess firecrackers and fireworks as they were classified as explosives.
"They may seem like harmless fun, but having seen the after effects of one exploding in a person's hand, it is not pretty," he said.
"There is also the risk of fire when they land, which could result in bushfires."
